Introduction to Press! Position Paper Advice + A Discussion on the Topics

Hello Delegates!

Welcome to Press! We are extremely excited to be meeting you all for BMUN 70!

A first note: Even though position papers were already due for research awards, please still send them in! I personally haven't been the best at communicating about expectations for extensions, so please email me and I can work through it. For expectations, I really recommend following the ideas and political skews both in terms of coming up with solutions and also for your sample paper. For the article, try to find a topic you would be interested in writing and use some of the techniques mentioned in the topic guide.

For the topics themselves, I have loved journalism since I was a child, and when I applied to Head Chair, I knew that the only committee that was perfect for me was Press Corps, The multifaceted nature of the committee that combines article-writing with the debate is something that is really dynamic for both the dias and the delegates alike. We chose political bias in media as our main topic for debate as it is something you innately have to consider when getting your assigned media group. The political leanings and connection to the government is likely the main thing that differentiates you from your peers in Press, and understanding the nuances of that connection is key in doing well for this Topic.

We are so excited to meet you all, and please feel free to shoot us an email!

Thanks,

Derek
